Women in Literature

Come and enjoy an evening of literature, poetry and readings by five female writers with local connections while enjoying good coffee and nice refreshments in the new performace space behind Flour and Water Bakery & Cafe.

Karen Minihan is a writer, theatre director and actor who lives and works in West Cork. Extraordinary, Ordinary Women: Live! is the presentation of the stories in her recent book and is currently touring with her short play, Home Rules, performed by acclaimed actor, Pauline O'Driscoll.

Joanne McCarthy, poet and co-editor of the literary journal The Waxed Lemon, will read a bi-lingual selection of her current poetry.

Lydia Little was working on final edits of the second book in her teen fiction boarding school series, K-Girls, when her brother, the singer/songwriter Fergus O’Farrell, died unexpectedly. Losing her mojo for creative fiction, Lydia crafted her alternative voice for non-fiction. Overload, a book about the loss of her beloved brother, is due for release this year.

Mary McCarthy is a poet from Skibbereen. She holds a first class MA in Creative Writing from the University of Limerick. Her poetry is regularly published in various newspapers.

Caragh Bell has published six books with Poolbeg Press and is currently working on her seventh. She has also contributed to an upcoming book entitled ‘Perspectives on the Teaching of Secondary English’
published by Cork University Press. Caragh regularly has articles published in various magazines and newspapers, gives workshops on writing, and her latest project is a play entitled ‘One in Four’ which is to be performed in The Drama League of Ireland One-Act Festival later this year.
