Julielou Bacon

Almanac 2026 ce

Uillinn/Crespo Foundation Artist in Residence 2026

5 June to 4 August 2026

Drop in to Studio 2 on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 July

Taking its name from the centuries-old almanac publication, this residency draws inspiration from traditional collections of seasonal knowledge and forecasts relating to farming, astronomy, the sea and weather. Almanac 2026 ce reflects on how we navigate time and climate today, while foregrounding the many different ways they are measured, experienced and understood. Through studio practice, fieldwork, and conversations in West Cork, Julielou will develop artworks that explore how the rhythms of land, sea and sky are woven through people, species and places. Studio 2 will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the residency.

Dr. Julie Louise Bacon is an artist, writer, musician and curator from South Shields, a former shipbuilding, coal mining and fishing town by the North Sea in England. She is currently based in Edinburgh, where she lectures in Art at Edinburgh College of Art. Her work focuses on the changing ways that we experience time, intimately and collectively, and the role that climates play in this. Through exhibitions, curatorial activities, publications and teaching practice, she brings together perspectives on time that connect our memories, histories and imagination with the potential and diversity of planetary life.
