Gamelan workshop at Skibbereen Community and Family Resource Centre. Festival goers are invited to try out this inclusive orchestra, which is a tuned bronze percussion ensemble consisting of 30 different instruments (gongs, metallophones, xylophones and others). The instruments have an enchanting, otherworldly sound, and come from the ancient musical court tradition of Java, Indonesia. Gamelan is by its very nature participatory and sociable and all are welcome regardless of their level of musical experience; if you can hit a gong with a mallet, you can play! Participants will be amazed at how quickly they will be making beautifully sonorous music with these exotic instruments.
They are suitable for all ages but very young children will need an adult on hand to help them. The tutor is Dr. Kevin McNally, gamelan teacher at UCC, UL, and member of the Irish Gamelan Orchestra. For more info contact: kevin.mcnally@ul.ie

Fite Fuaite agus ceol at 49 North Street. Seisiún with Pól O Colmain and Rud Sin singing as Gaeilge.
All levels of Irish welcome – come with some, come with lots or come with none! Conversation and craic.
Pól O’Colmain didn’t really set out to be an artist and musician, but when you live among the windswept moors, historic villages, ruined castles, and remote islands of western Ireland, it’s hard to avoid expressing their beauty in some way. “I can’t not do it,” he says. “They perfectly complement my love and fascination with nature, my homeland, my language, and culture. It’s all connected...inextricable one from the other.”
