During her residency, Mairead will investigate the surreal parallels between humans and fish, drawing inspiration from her deep fascination with marine life and concern for the environmental threats facing the coastal ecosystems of West Cork.
Mairead's new choreographic work envisions a world where fish adopt human behaviours—sunbathing, swimming, and even contributing to ecological harm—presented through movement that is both satirical and thought provoking. This approach intends to raise awareness of the disproportionate impact humans have on marine life and to challenge entrenched ideas around consumption and environmental neglect.
The performance in development seeks to entertain while also advocating for the protection of marine ecosystems. In doing so, Mairead hopes to build connections with like-minded individuals in West Cork and engage with new audiences who care about the intersection of art and environmental activism.
