Mark Beatty is an artist who produces drawings in conventional and unconventional media and uses drawing as a means of making installations and interventions. His work has been included in group exhibitions in the LAB, TBG&S and The Douglas Hyde Gallery. His first solo show took place in the Clonakilty Arts Centre in 2016 and since then he has undertaken three residencies in the West Cork Arts Centre and has participated in the Skibbereen Arts Festival. The most recent work he exhibited was as part of a two person show in Áras Inis Gluire, Belmullet in 2021. He lives and works in West Cork.

For Skibbereen Arts Festival 2022 Mark has composed a drawing /painting using sticky labels, as used for putting the price on goods, on the translucent plastic sheeting that is used to wrap goods.

Similar in fashion to stained glass, the installation will be placed in the arched window space at the back entrance to Supervalu, creating an almost church-like space.

"Paper and plastic are materials I use all the time. I feel this piece combines them effectively both being paraphernalia of consumer culture. I want to use plastic wrapping and sticky pricing labels in an unlikely way with decoration and pattern to give value and potential meaning to otherwise throwaway materials. A contemporary alternative to a stained glass window."
